"The Illusion of Identity" 122 x 81cm Acrylic Paint on Board
This piece explores the layered and often distorted ways we perceive identity. Drawing inspiration from the moiré effect, I superimposed abstract patterns over a painted portrait to create a deliberate visual interference. This artistic technique requires the exact same portrait to be painted twice, layering the paint in two different colour palettes over precisely lined tape. The impression of static distortion acts as a metaphor for the mental filters through which we view each other, regardless of the reality beneath. The overlapping layers obscuring clarity and highlighting how perception is rarely objective. This piece invites the viewer to reflect on how identity is constructed not just by who we are, but by how we are seen.
