Reporting and Assessment

The school provides students and parents/guardians with information regarding the release of reporting data, written reports and the timings of academic consultation evenings.

Reporting data

In Years 7 and 8, the school reports the following:

• The ‘’Assessment %’’ which is calculated from all of the assessments that a student has completed from the start of the course. Weighting is used to reduce the impact of historic assessment scores or augment significant assessments.
• The ‘’Average Assessment %’’ which represents the mean result for the subject cohort.
• Attendance figures.

In Years 9 – 13, the school also reports a grade which gives an indication of what a student with the reported ‘’Assessment %’’ has historically gone on to achieve; the data should be read as indicating a particular grade or better.

In Year 13, students also receive UCAS Grades which are:

• Evidence-based: Informed by assessments completed since the start of the course.
• Aspirational yet realistic: An indication of what the school believes a student can achieve under positive circumstances by the end of Year 13. Therefore, these reflect optimistic targets rather than guaranteed final outcomes.
• Official: Submitted directly to UCAS and shared with universities to support their application.

Therefore, a student’s attainment is informed by their completed work and can go up or down or remain the same on the basis of the quality of work produced in the future.

Written Reports

Parents of students in Years 7 - 11 receive a tutor report which focuses on students’ individual qualities and achievements as well as considering their contribution to the wider values and ethos of the school. Parents of students in the Sixth Form receive the students’ reference in Year 13.

Academic Consultations

There are two academic consultation evenings in Years 7, 8, and 12 and one academic consultation evening in Years 9 – 11 and 13.

Finally, where we have concerns about a student underperforming we will make contact with parents/guardians. However, we encourage students and parents/guardians to contact us where they have subject-specific queries. Nominated students will also receive subject awards in recognition of academic excellence and dedication, and where they have been exceptionally creative, confident, independent or ambitious, in accordance with our Langton Values.
