Old Girls (SLOGA)
SLOGA
Membership of the Simon Langton Old Girls' Association (SLOGA) is free to all former pupils of Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School. An official Facebook account has been created called "SLOGA Co-ordinator" to which former students are invited to send a friend request. From this account we will post news and updates about events in school and about ways in which former students can continue to remain involved with the school.
Get Involved with Our Careers/Work-related Learning Programme!
Every year we hold a number of off-timetable careers/work-related learning events in school in which we would be delighted to invite former students with relevant expertise and experience to become involved. Events such as:
- Year 9 World of Work Day: employers run a couple of short, hands-on workshops to introduce their profession to students, to challenge students' perceptions of the world of work and to raise awareness of the range of skills and personal qualities demanded by employers in the work place. A morning of practical activities culminates in an afternoon of creative presentations by students to the rest of their yeargroup in the school hall in the afternoon
- Year 11 Interview Day: students select a job from an online careers database in the Autumn term and prepare CVs and letters of application before being offered a 15/20 minute interview by employers/academics on the afternoon of Interview Day in the spring term. We would particularly like to hear from former students with experience of recruitment who might be able to spare us a couple of hours one day in March!
- Sixth Form Management Conference: students from SLGGS and other local schools form teams and compete in a two-day business challenge under the guidance of advisors with experience in business and marketing
More details about these events can be found on our Careers Department pages . Please contact the Lifelong Learning Co-ordinator, Andrea Shieber with any queries of if you would like to become involved. Thank you!
Work Experience
Alternatively, you may be in a position to offer students in Years 11/12/13 the opportunity for a valuable work experience placement - please email the Lifelong Learning Co-ordinator, Andrea Shieber, if you are able to help.
SLGGS Mentoring Scheme
The SLGGS Mentoring Scheme enables current sixth form students to make contact via email with former students of the school and to access help and advice from girls who understand what they are experiencing. It also enables former students to share news of their progress and to inspire students about the possibilities open to them. We now have more than 130 former students on the database at various stages in their career – many are still at university, some are out on gap years, some are undertaking postgraduate training/education whilst others are now established in the world of work.
We hope you will consider becoming a mentor now you have left the school and that you will be happy to share your news and experiences with current students. Students may email you to seek advice about their choice of university, course or career (we do not give your address or telephone number out to students – this is for our use only). As former students, you are wonderful role models so I hope you will be happy to join our ever-growing group of mentors. Your experiences of higher/further education, travelling and/or the labour market will be invaluable!
If you would like to join the scheme, please complete and return the form below. Thank you!
