SLGGS Soul & Funk Band Signs Off for the Summer

Date posted:Tuesday 14th June 2011

SLGGS's Soul and Funk Band have signed off for the summer after completing their gigging season with a fine performance at The Wyvern Day Special School Ashford for pupils with Profound, Severe or Complex learning difficulties.

The afternoon gig, held on Saturday 11 June, was part of an end of season club cabaret fundraiser for the school’s football team, Invicta Valiants.

The band played two very professional sets totalling twelve songs to an appreciative audience, including Play That Funky Music, Valerie and Son of a Preacher Man. The band featured lead vocalists Amelia Angus, Ben Young and Lucy Korzeniowska plus an excellent debut performance from Fran Carver singing Superstition. Highlights included a sensitively sung rendition of Love Goes Down by Amelia and a guitar vs drum-off at the end of Play That Funky Music. Also, the lean 3-piece horn section played an amazingly tight and edgy set.

Sadly the gig was also the last performance for founder members Fabia Goff (Trumpet) and Savannah Smith (Bass) as their time at SLGGS is all but finished. They both played with style and conviction at this and every gig and will be a hard act to follow.

Afterwards the band was approached by two interested parties with two potential further bookings! Well done!
