SLBS CONSULTATION REGARDING CHANGING CRITERIA FOR THE ADMISSION OF STUDENTS TO YEAR 7 IN SEPTEMBER 2013

Parents will be aware, through the local press and television, that SLBS are consulting about changing their criteria for the admission of students to Year 7 in September 2013.

To summarise, places at SLBS will be allocated in the following order:-

  • In order to gain entry to the school under the new criteria, boys will need to gain a score of at least 385 in the Kent Test (as opposed to 360 which is the KCC published pass-mark), and live within a 9 mile radius of the school.
  • Boys with scores lower than 385, even though they live in Canterbury and may have siblings in the school, will only be considered if places remain after the first round of allocations.

We have already had several enquiries from prospective parents asking if we, as the ‘sister’ school, are also intending to become more selective.  We have no intention of becoming any more selective – i.e. any girl who passes the Kent Test, with the Kent published score of 360 or above, will be able to apply for a place at SLGGS.  We firmly believe in local grammar schools for local children and also in ensuring that siblings of our present students should be prioritised.

Please be aware that there is still plenty of time to make a submission to the SLBS Governing Body, as this consultation does not close until February 23rd 2012, not as was initially indicated 10thJanuary 2012.  The consultation document is on the SLBS website (thelangton.org.uk).

Yours sincerely,

Mrs J. S. Robinson / Headteacher
