Year 7 student Mary Cooke wins prestigious local singing competition

Year 7 student, Mary Cooke won a prestigious local singing competition on Thursday 21 June with her rendition of Amazing Grace and Caro Mio Ben (sung in Italian).

Mary was competing in the annual New Eden Studio competiton for young musicians under 20 years of age in Dover and was the youngest entrant in her Intermediate category by three years. She sung in the final at Dover Town Hall in front of an audience that included the The Right Worshipful the Town Mayor of Dover Councillor Mrs Anne Smith.

The competition, sponsored by Trinity College London, included a mix of singers and instrumentalists playing piano, oboe, guitar and saxophone and was judged by Mr John Harper, an examiner of music from Trinity Guildhall and Mr David Burridge, Education Director for the Deal and Canterbury Festivals. Mary was presented with a shield and will be provided with a professionally recorded CD of her performance.
