Dance Langton Dance!

Dancers exhibited a mix of class work, club work and dances they had choreographed themselves.

 

Head of Dance Ms Stücker said: “All girls have worked with great commitment and enthusiasm to make the performances possible. Extra rehearsals were attended really well which is a true reflection of the girls’ dedication to succeed. Our collaboration with Bird College of Performing Arts has led to a workshop being held for year 12 Dance Students and as always the offer to participate in one of their Easter or Summer schools.”
                       
Year 8 & 9 Dance Club members opened the show with a number from High School Musical choreographed by Dance Captains, Georgina Robey and Rebecca Mulvihill.

 

Year 7 dancers dramatised their own ideas with parents working hard behind the scenes to create costumes for monsters, gnomes, pirates and muses. Students in Year 8 worked on themes using contemporary dance technique and enjoyed the challenge of expressing dance through pure movement. In Year 9 girls used professional dance pieces as inspiration to create their own versions and to learn a short piece of repertoire within that.

 

Several girls in year 13 choreographed their own dances and girls in the Senior Dance Club closed the evening with a number from the musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, a taster from the forthcoming production in March 2012.

 

Ms Stücker said: “The last three weeks have been very busy. All girls have risen to the challenges set. Dances took shape and as the girl’s confidence grew so did their excitement day by day. All of them have looked forward to the performance and I am very proud of them all.”
