U16 1st XI Football Team Kent Cup Match
The U16 1st XI football team played away at last year’s finalists Dane Court Grammar on Thursday in the quarter-finals of the Kent Cup. In atrocious conditions (freezing diagonal rain and hailstones!) they found themselves 2-0 down at half time. However, they did not let their heads drop and in a display of awe-inspiring resilience and teamwork, fought back to make it 3-3 at fulltime, thanks to a last minute equaliser from Lily Bruce. That sent the match into extra time, and ...with under 2 minutes left to play Jenny O’Rourke swung in a corner that took a deflection off a Dane Court player and crept over the line. Jubilant scenes ensued, and at the final whistle they confirmed their place in the semi-finals. It was an amazing team performance, with special mention to Chiara Mesquita (2 goals and an imperious midfield display) and Ella Wilson-Sharp for her tireless running at the Dane Court defence.
Well done ladies – you did yourselves and the school proud. The semi-finals are a fixed date by the Kent FA and are listed as Saturday 20th January. More details to follow. (A very proud) Mr Pollard and Miss Harris.
